Money · measured against four gas vehicles
What would happen if every mile had a receipt?
What the car costs to run, what it is worth, and what it earns. The denominator and the numerator on the same page, because separating them is how people talk themselves into vehicles they cannot afford.

What this car costs to run
12.2¢ a mile measured: $497.48 of charging across 4,067.2 miles, 1,192.3 kWh at a blended 41.7¢. Electricity is priced from the invoice, so the 7.47% that never reaches the battery is already inside it. Energy only.
A month of running costs
At this car’s pace since September 7, 2,536.8 miles in 34 days, which is 2,238 miles a month:
| Line | A month | A year | A mile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Energy | $274 modeled | $3,285 | 12.2¢ |
| Insurance | $90 stated | $1,080 | 4.0¢ |
| FSD (Supervised) | $99 stated | $1,188 | 4.4¢ |
| Premium Connectivity | $9.99 stated | $120 | 0.4¢ |
| Running costs, at this pace | $473 modeled | $5,673 | 21.1¢ |
Energy is this car’s measured price for a mile at this pace modeled. Insurance and software are billed by the month, so their share of each mile moves with the miles driven. The car drove 95.1% of its miles on FSD (Supervised) measured.

On fuel, the Lexus ES300h is the one vehicle here that costs less per mile than this car.
At other prices
The same driving at other prices for a kWh. A price at the meter also pays for the 7.47% lost charging, so those rows use 316.9 Wh a mile modeled: the 293.2 that reached the battery measured, with the loss added back. This car’s own two rows are priced per kWh that reached the battery. Set your own on Your Numbers.
| A kWh costs | Per mile | A month |

| 10¢ | 3.2¢ | $71 |
| 15¢ | 4.8¢ | $106 |
| 20¢ | 6.3¢ | $142 |

The last two rows are this car’s own prices measured; the rest are modeled.
Not in the number
Tires, registration and maintenance have no invoice in this ledger yet, so none is priced. Neither is what the car gives up in value: Value and warranty shows what lots list it for.
What the maintenance schedule asks
There is no engine oil to change, and the carmaker’s own schedule for this car is short. Here is all of it, and how often each mile-based item comes due at the 2,238 miles a month this car is driving.
| Item | When the schedule asks | At this car’s pace |
|---|---|---|
| Rotate the tires | Every 6,250 miles, or sooner if the tread depth differs by 2/32 inch or more | About every 2.8 months modeled |
| Brake fluid | A health check every 4 years; replaced only if the check calls for it | Time, not miles |
| Cabin air filter | Every 2 years (3 years for the HEPA and carbon filters, if equipped) | Time, not miles |
| Wiper blades | Every year | Time, not miles |
| Brake calipers | Cleaned and lubricated every year or 12,500 miles, where roads are salted in winter | 12,500 miles is about 5.6 months modeled |
The brakes ask little because the motors do most of the slowing: regenerative braking uses the pads less than a gas car does, and the manual asks the owner to press the brake pedal now and then so the pads and rotors don’t rust. It adds that towing, mountain descents and performance driving, especially in hot, humid weather, can call for brake fluid checks sooner. The battery coolant does not need replacing for the life of the car under most circumstances. Pads and the low voltage battery are replaced when they wear.
The months are modeled: the schedule’s miles at this car’s own pace.

What lots list them for
CarGurus puts the average listing price of a used 2024 Model Y at $36,870 modeled, up 6.94% over a year and 1.96% over the last 30 days.

How the average has moved
Since the read of September 20, the average is up $587 (1.6%) modeled.
The steps either side of this car are $2,230 (2025 over 2024) and $3,631 (2024 over 2023) modeled: that is what a year of age lists for, before miles.
The warranty runs on miles
Whichever limit comes first ends the coverage.

Terms from The carmaker’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty; end dates from the car's app, August 2026. Miles left is the limit less the odometer measured. The run-out dates hold this car’s pace of 2,238 miles a month modeled.
At this pace the miles, not the years, end both coverages, and the basic warranty is gone in about 12 months. The battery’s floor is 70% of its original capacity. This pack reads 79 of 79 kWh, 0% degradation at 118 cycles measured, and Recurrent scored it 96 of 100 on September 3 modeled. The warranties belong to the car, so they pass to whoever buys it, for the miles and years that are left.
What the average leaves out
